Fire Fire Fire (safety) was the watch word of the first meeting. We spent a half hour or so making sure the guys new how to use the hand tool I had brought and then the main event. We started using the fire extinguisher. As I'm sure you are aware working with a screw driver on a piece of wood is boring but if you place the wood on fire then there is much greater interest.
These guys did a good job of following my direction and even though I'm sure they were "going what is this guy doing?" they followed the instructions well and we safely worked our way through the safety class.
Next week is going to start the disassembly portion of the program. Over the next two weeks we are going to take apart a Ipod, a radio, and a printer. I'm looking for a washer or dishwasher for the next week. Failing that we will take apart a laptop computer and a scanner.
Image by scottfidd via FlickrMarch 29th we will be doing the first of two bonus weeks. This week we will be working with mentos and various sodas and comparing the pressure from the drinks to other pressure sources and trying to find a way to launch a rocket.
Image by TruthLying via FlickrApril 5th this is the second bonus week. This week we will be playing a card game called Fluxx. This is a great game to study before we try to design a card game of our own. If the weather is bad on the 29 we will swap the weeks.
The following week we will start back with the final week of disassembly as we take apart the the remote control cars we are going to be using for our robots.
I'm sure you'll be joining us back here next week. Same bat time same bat channel.
Glenn
